Making sure that home and business owners affected by Hurricane Ida have a voice.

As a native New Orleanian, partner Matthew Sherman knows all too well the havoc hurricanes can wreak upon families and businesses. Which is why Sherman wanted to step up and take a leadership role in expediting the handling of legal cases filed around hurricane insurance claims.

Sherman was appointed and is volunteering to serve as the chair of the Hurricane Ida Plaintiff Steering Committee in Jefferson Parish. Modeled after the program put in place after Hurricane Laura devastated Lake Charles, this committee advocates for homeowners and businesses that have filed lawsuits against insurance companies relating to damages suffered during Ida. These cases, put to a rocket docket, come before three special masters who guide the case through mediation. Sherman and the rest of the Plaintiff Steering Committee will continue to assist with any issues that may arise on behalf of the plaintiffs throughout this ongoing process.

As chairman of the plaintiff’s committee, something he’s doing pro-bono, Sherman makes sure that all Ida cases filed in Jefferson Parish are expedited through the system and resolved quickly, allowing affected parties to get their homes, lives and businesses back on track. Taking the initiative to proactively volunteer his time to benefit his community is just one example that shows Sherman’s local ties run deep.
