Chehardy Sherman Williams is thrilled to announce that Cedric Richmond, an attorney for The Trial Team and former senior advisor to the President, has been named a partner at the firm. Richmond joined the practice in early 2025 and, in October, was tapped by Mayor-Elect Moreno as co-chair of her transition team, advising Moreno on moving New Orleans in a new direction.
“We are honored to welcome Cedric Richmond as a partner at Chehardy Sherman Williams,” said David Sherman, founding partner and co-managing partner. “He has been an invaluable addition to our firm, and his leadership on the Moreno transition team reflects his deep commitment to serving our community. We look forward to the impact he will have within our practice and across Louisiana.”
“Cedric Richmond brings powerful legal insight and strategic leadership to our firm,” said James Williams, co-managing partner at Chehardy Sherman Williams and Head of The Trial Team. “His years of legislative service and national policy experience give him a unique ability to see the bigger picture and anticipate challenges, which will be an asset to our clients as we guide them through critical problems.”
Richmond’s prestigious career spans over two decades, during which he has held numerous high-profile positions. As one of the youngest elected legislators to ever hold office in Louisiana, he served as the Louisiana State Representative for the 101st district (New Orleans) from 2000 to 2011. From 2011 to 2021, he served as a U.S. Representative for Louisiana’s 2nd Congressional District, where he was a vocal advocate for his constituents and played a pivotal role in shaping national policy. Richmond also chaired the Congressional Black Caucus from 2017 to 2019, advancing civil rights and social justice issues.
In addition to his legislative accomplishments, Richmond served as a senior advisor to President Joe Biden and as the director of the White House Office of Public Engagement. In this role, he was instrumental in fostering communication between the administration and the American public, ensuring that diverse voices were heard and represented at the highest levels of government. Following his role with the president, Richmond most recently served as senior advisor to the Democratic National Committee.
Richmond, a New Orleans native, graduated from Ben Franklin High School and Morehouse College. He earned a Juris Doctor from Tulane School of Law and completed an executive program at Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government.
At Chehardy Sherman Williams, Richmond has leveraged his extensive network and expertise to enhance the firm’s capabilities across civil litigation, government relations, and public policy matters. His unique perspective and strategic insights have strengthened the firm’s ability to serve its clients and address complex legal challenges.
