Cedric L. Richmond brings decades of leadership at the highest levels of government, law, and public engagement. A native of New Orleans, he served six terms in the U.S. House of Representatives, representing Louisiana’s Second Congressional District. During his tenure, Richmond held key committee assignments, including Ways and Means, Homeland Security, Small Business, and Judiciary, where he was elected as chairman. He also served as co-chairman of the Legislative Audit Advisory Council. In 2016, Richmond became the youngest-ever Chair of the Congressional Black Caucus, and more recently, led the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation as Chair. He also served as co-chair of President Joe Biden’s 2020 campaign.
Richmond played a key role in advancing landmark criminal justice reform and strengthening emergency preparedness for Louisiana’s 2nd District through his oversight of FEMA as a member of the House Committee on Homeland Security.
Following his congressional service, Richmond was appointed Senior Advisor to President Joe Biden and Director of the White House Office of Public Engagement. There, he led strategic outreach to national stakeholders across business, civil rights, and advocacy sectors. In 2022, Richmond became a senior advisor to the Democratic National Committee.
Richmond began his career practicing law in New Orleans and is the founder of Richmond Consulting, LLC, a strategic advisory firm focused on the intersection of policy, politics, and business. He holds a B.A. in Business Administration with a concentration in Accounting from Morehouse College and a J.D. from Tulane University School of Law, where he was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2019. He is also a graduate of Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government Executive Program and holds honorary doctorates from Southern University A&M and Xavier University of Louisiana.
