Clients need and deserve an attorney with vast experience, in-depth knowledge and insight into a particular practice area. Which is why Chehardy, Sherman, Williams, Recile & Hayes is proud to announce that two more attorneys, Adrienne Ellis and Rory Bellina, have earned the designation “Health Law Specialist” certified by the Louisiana Board of Legal Specialization. Mrs. Ellis and Mr. Bellina join R. Christopher Martin and Conrad Meyer as Health Law Specialists.
“Since we first opened our doors in 1989, our firm has provided comprehensive legal services for a broad range within the healthcare industry, from providers and practice groups to facilities and laboratories.” said founding partner David Sherman. “We are thrilled to offer our clients such a breadth of industry experience to help keep them informed and in compliance in this highly regulated sector.”
To qualify as a Health Law Specialist, an attorney has to be practicing health law for a minimum of five years. Besides receiving five references from attorneys who can attest to the applicant’s competency, each Specialist must pass a written exam on a wide range of health law topics including general health care contract issues in Louisiana and Federal anti-kickback prohibitions, Federal and Louisiana restrictions on physicians’ referrals to health care entities, medical records, patient rights, Louisiana Medicaid program and audits and appeals. Each Specialist must also obtain a minimum of 15 hours of continuing legal education (“CLE”) in the field of health law per calendar year.
To date, there are only 32 Health Law Specialists in the entire state of Louisiana. Chehardy, Sherman, Williams, Recile & Hayes has four Health Law Specialists, the most of any law firm in the Greater New Orleans Area.
